Their faith was attacked from all sides, priests who came out from the seminaries poorly formed with what seemed like a different faith, leaders in the church that were ill-equipped by life to deal with the child abuse scandals and a constant bombardment of left-wing anti-catholic propaganda. Very few made it with their faith intact in 1987 a law was passed that every radio station had to have 10 per cent of their programs dedicated to current affairs. This meant a 5-10 min "news" update every hour. A local radio station can't produce that much content by itself so it naturally will follow the lead of RTE which was originally a very conservative station. I reckon that making these young men do these dances for “special occasions”, essentially for the entertainment of white people, is condescending and patronising to the aboriginal people. These were historically private ceremonies out in the bush, for cultural reasons, now we white people in the Church are misusing these ceremonies inappropriately in Catholic liturgy, outside of their proper cultural context.
