Dear brothers and sisters, on the feast of St. John Bosco, January 31, we would like to recall the three foundations of his preventive education system: reason, religion, and loving-kindness. This education system should be urgently rediscovered and updated in this time of "epochal change," in which the total failure of traditional educational agencies—family, school, and the Church—is clearly evident. To summarize, the educational process must begin again from the relation of love, the pure love coming from God, between educator and student, between adults and youth. In this way, the relationship, while transmitting the beauty of God's love for every man and woman called to become his adoptive children in Christ (Religion), not only does not diminish reason but, on the contrary, enhances it, allowing it to understand, in faith, God's stupendous plan for creation.
