On August 28, the U.S. Justice Department released a 231-page report on the FBI’s 2023 Richmond Catholic memo, including evidence of surveillance of traditionalist Catholic clergy. The FBI investigated two priests and conducted surveillance connected to them. One belonged to the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X (FSSPX); the other, his uncle, was associated with SSPX Resistance and had been ordained by Bishop Richard Williamson. Agents researched travel and credit-card records. FBI personnel in Boston surveilled the second priest at the airport, while Customs and Border Protection questioned him and searched his phone. Both investigations were subsequently closed after the FBI found no identified national-security threat and no alleged violation of federal law. If you read the slides on "Radical Traditional Catholicism" you will see that for the FBI any Catholic who adheres to and professes all the Magisterial teaching, Encyclicals and Apostolic letters on Church and State, family and morality of previous Popes before Vatican II (and, indeed, the Ten Commandments) should be profiled as a terrorist. The FBI makes a complete caricature of what those teachings are and represent, claiming such nonsense as Traditional Catholics believe in a "totalitarian Catholic confessional State". They even portray the fundamental principle of “Error has no rights” as being problematic and indicative of "radical Traditionalism". Tell that to God, Who holds the same principles. German Church Cancels November Synodal Conference as Vatican Delays Approval: The first “Synodal Conference” of the Church in Germany, scheduled to take place in Stuttgart on November 6–7, has been postponed, Domradio reported on August 28. The main reason is that the statutes are still awaiting the necessary recognition from the Vatican. Hotel rooms that had been reserved for the November meeting have been cancelled. The president of the German Bishops’ Conference, Bishop Heiner Wilmer of Hildesheim, had already said in May that, given the ongoing review by several Vatican dicasteries, he no longer expected the Synodal Conference to begin in November.

On August 29, Pope Leo XIV became the first Pope to take part by boat in the procession for the Feast of Our Lady of the Lake in Castel Gandolfo. After celebrating the Eucharist at the Church of Maria Santissima del Lago, Leo XIV boarded the Falco together with the statue of Our Lady of the Lake and crossed Lake Albano in a 25-minute procession, accompanied by canoes and other boats.
