Australian Bishop Emeritus Christopher Saunders, 76, was sentenced on Wednesday to six years and six months in prison for sexually abusing two young Aboriginal men in Western Australia. Saunders led the Diocese of Broome from 1996 until 2021. He was convicted in August of 12 counts of indecent assault and one count of sexual penetration. The offences occurred between 2008 and 2019. He was acquitted of six other charges and will be eligible for parole in February 2031. Saunders stepped aside in 2020 following allegations of sexual misconduct and misuse of Church funds. An initial police investigation was closed in 2021 due to insufficient evidence. During the trial, prosecutors alleged that Saunders used Church funds to provide young Aboriginal men with alcohol, cigarettes, cash and other benefits. He said that the radical liturgical changes following Vatican II had damaged, and in some cases even destroyed, Catholics’ faith. Cordileone also pointed to a generational reversal: Young Catholics increasingly seek to recover tradition, while older generations remain attached to the changes introduced in their youth. “The Creator is the source of human dignity, not the State.” Cardinal Willem Jacobus Eijk of Utrecht, Netherlands, argued in an October 8 interview with LaNuovaBq.it that democratic majorities cannot determine fundamental human rights. Without recognition of God as Creator, the State assumes the power to decide who deserves legal protection and who does not, including unborn children. Eijk insisted that legislation must be grounded in natural moral law. Strange words. We can talk about our Creator in many different praises: as the Source of life, truth, love, beauty, our reasonable soul and its salvation. But human dignity or "human rights"? God is no suffragist or cheap politician. And He is no humanist either. In his relationship, as the creature, towards God man does not need any human dignity/human rights and cannot claim one (as he is unworthy) unless he wants to claim "non serviam" - just as the ancient serpent. And the State, just as the man, should also serve God which the post-conciliar revolution forgot about. It is the source of things forbidden to the State, killing children included. The God's direct commandment, God's direct order, yes also the natural law. Not any inalienable dignity or "human rights". Hell is full of people who claimed them.

FSSPX to Continue Lourdes Pilgrimage Despite Bishop’s Restrictions The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (SSPX) has announced that it will continue its annual pilgrimage to Lourdes. Following the episcopal consecrations on July 1 in Ecône, Bishop Jean-Marc Micas of Tarbes and Lourdes withdrew permission for the SSPX to celebrate public Masses, administer sacraments, or organize public prayers at Lourdes. In an August 22 statement, Fr. Gonzague Peignot, superior of the FSSPX in France, announced that the Fraternity intends to continue coming to Lourdes every year, “Our Lady does not deserve to be abandoned despite the obstacles,” he said. The FSSPX expressed 'sorrow and incomprehension', questioning the bishop's decision and pointing to the interreligious Christian-Muslim pilgrimage that was welcomed at the sanctuary in October 2025.
