Spanish Bishops Divided over Immigrants in Ceuta: Archbishop Luis Argüello of Valladolid, president of the Spanish bishops’ conference, called the surge “an invasion,” contrasting with the local diocese’s humanitarian response. Argüello said the influx was part of a broader political strategy, arguing that migrants were being used in struggles for “money and power” and that “demographics are a weapon.”

Bishop Strickland : How were they to reconcile Pius X warnings against modernism with V2's desire for greater engagement with contemporary society?

Bishop Strickland about modernism within the Church of Leo XIV
My dear friends in Christ,
Thank you for joining me today.
There are some words that once occupied a central place in the life of the Catholic Church but are now seldom heard, and I want to talk about one of those words today. The word is “modernism.”
Ask the average Catholic today what modernism is, and many will not know how to answer. Ask when they last heard a sermon about it, and many would say, “Never.”
Yet there was a time when the Church regarded modernism as such a grave danger that Pope St. Pius X devoted an entire encyclical to exposing it. In 1907, in Pascendi Dominici Gregis, he called modernism “the synthesis of all heresies.” Those are extraordinary words. Popes do not use language like that lightly.
If St. Pius X believed modernism was the synthesis of all heresies, then a question naturally follows: What happened?
Did modernism simply disappear? Or have we reached a point where the Church’s own warnings …Ibindi

Almost-Spy Operation: Prevost's Intrigues in Peru

On 4 August, Peruvian essayist Santiago Roncagliolo, in a lengthy interview with Daniel Titinger, described Leo XIV's behind-the-scenes methods as Bishop Robert Prevost of Chiclayo, Peru.
According to Roncagliolo, Prevost quietly built coalitions, divided opponents, managed information, and preferred discreet political action to public confrontation. Roncagliolo is broadly sympathetic to Leo XIV.
"As a character to narrate he was a nightmare. He has no phrases, no scenes, no gestures. You ask the sources: 'What did Prevost say at that dramatic and crucial moment?' 'Nothing, I think'.'"
Weakening Opus Dei from Within
Interviewer Titinger described Prevost as "a Trojan horse": "He understands the adversary, doesn't confront him openly, but disables him from within. He's always quiet; that's why he wasn't well known."
Roncagliolo does not reject the characterization and discusses Prevost in those terms.
He also explains how Prevost weakened Opus Dei: "Prevost divided Opus Dei. He offered …Ibindi

Cardinal Aveline: “Every Religion Legitimately [!] Considers Itself True”

"Every religion legitimately considers itself to possess the truth," Cardinal Jean-Marc Aveline, Archbishop of Marseille and president of the French Bishops' Conference, said in an interview on Avvenire.it on August 5.
Talking about Marseille's religious diversity [where Arabic has long become the dominant language], Cardinal Aveline described the coexistence of Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, and Christians as a theological challenge: "We did not invent the plurality of religions, nor the fact that every religion legitimately considers itself to possess the truth."
On the Church's catholicity, Aveline claims: "The Creed we recite every Sunday embodies the Church's vocation to catholicity. If I had been born in China, I would have been Confucian; in Japan, Shinto."
He argued that the Church's catholicity means recognizing "the desire for God in the hearts of women and men of every religion."
Citing the Second Vatican Council, he said the Holy Spirit offers everyone "the possibility of being …Ibindi

ST. JOSEPH'S INTERCESSION FOR THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED.
St. Francis de Sales says: ** We do not often enough remember our dead, our faithful departed."
Thus the Church, Uke a good »"mother, recalls to us the thought of the dead when we have forgotten them, and therefore she consecrates the month of November to the memory of the dead. This pious and salutary practice of praying for an entire month for the dead takes its rise from the earliest ages of the Church. The custom of mourning thirty days for the dead existed amongst the Jews. The practice of saying thirty Masses on thirty consecutive days was established by St. Gregory, and Innocent XI enriched it with indulgences. This is also a reminder that the OT patriarchs had to wait for Jesus to pass into Heaven as He had to "open the gates" for them also.

" that a devotion to the death of St. Joseph obtains many graces for those who are agonizing, and that, as St. Joseph did not at once pass into heaven—because Jesus Christ had not opened its gates—but descended into Limbo, it is a most useful devotion for the agonizing, and for the souls in Purgatory, to offer to God the resignation of St. Joseph when he was dying and about to leave Jesus and Mary in this world, and to honor the holy patience of this great Saint waiting calmly in Limbo until Easter-day, when Jesus Christ, risen and glorious, released him."

22 Previously Unpublished Letters Add to Rupnik Abuse Case Allegations

Twenty-two previously undisclosed letters by members of the former Loyola Community in Slovenia have been included in the Vatican's ongoing canonical criminal trial, according to OSVNews.com (August 6).
The letters were written during Easter 2000 after the community's superior, Sister Ivanka Hosta, asked the 40 sisters to write directly to Rupnik about their relationship with him as part of the Jubilee Year.
The sisters were instructed to describe what had happened and to offer forgiveness in a process of reconciliation. Twenty-two of the letters describe psychological, spiritual or sexual abuse.
The letters are held in the archives of the Loyola Community, now in the custody of the Archdiocese of Ljubljana. Their full contents have not been made public.
According to OSVNews, the letters describe alleged manipulation, coercion, abuse of authority, and physical and sexual assaults. Several sisters said Fr Rupnik used spiritual direction and religious language to pressure them into acts …Ibindi

Historic French Church in Guadeloupe Hit by Repeated Break-Ins

The church Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel in Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe, Caribbean, France, has suffered around 10 break-ins in four months, according to French public broadcaster Guadeloupe La 1ère.
Since late March, intruders have repeatedly entered the 17th-century church, leaving smashed stained-glass windows, broken donation boxes, damaged crosses, overturned furnishings, and other vandalism.
Rev. Jules Ahouandjinou called the attacks "a profanation that does not bear its name". Despite police complaints, surveillance cameras, and forensic evidence, the break-ins have continued.
Founded by the Jesuits in the 17th century, it is one of Guadeloupe's oldest Catholic churches, a protected French Historic Monument, and a major Marian pilgrimage site.

Homosexuality is a mental disease, just any other, kleptomania, psychopathy etc.
The inclinations as such are not sinful, but acting upon is. St.Paul surely was not wrong. The good bishop ought to read the bible more often and not the homo propaganda.

However, it is also possible that the lack of a response is a matter of personnel connected with the basilica.
There is growing speculation that Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, Archpriest of Saint Peter’s Basilica, is due to be replaced soon. Rumors in Rome indicate that Gambetti’s replacement might be Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Cardinal Rolandas Makrickas, or Bishop Guido Marini, who are all thought to be friendlier to the TLM than Gambetti.
It is possible that a forthcoming transition in archpriest could be delaying a response about the celebration of a TLM in the basilica
Therefore, silence should not be understood as rejection — at least not yet.
Several Vatican sources told The Pillar the decision to allow the Mass last year happened after Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke asked the pope in an Aug. 22 audience to allow the Mass to be celebrated there...

Is Pope Leo maintaining a TLM ‘gray area’?

Last month’s illicit SSPX consecrations and subsequent excommunications raised expectations that Pope Leo might soon act to expand the celebration of the TLM in communities that are in union with Rome. But more than a month later, that expected papal action has not come. Credit: Thoom / Shutterstock. Pope Leo has made a number of small yet tangible gestures towards traditionalist communities in the first year of his pontificate – for example, receiving some of the bishops, cardinals, and religious superiors most closely connected to them, and allowing a traditionalist pilgrimage to celebrate Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica. Those measures have sharpened expectation in some corners that the pope has planned to address longstanding discontent over Francis’ liturgical policy, with a solution friendly to Catholics who prefer the older liturgical rubrics. Last week, though, the prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments said in an interview that Pope Leo …
